Just as national socialism gradually evolved through good intentions and the nurturing of a socialist constituency, so our own brand of U.S. federal socialism grows.  Obama and the leftists in congress track closely with the German national socialists of the 1930s.  Every one of these movements in history came to a very bad end.  What hubris to think our governments and courts could take over industry and banking, rewrite finance and contract law, redistribute wealth between the top half and the bottom half of the population, and ration medicine, while creating no negative consequences.  We cannot know the future, but on this well-traveled road, we know, for many, it will be deadly and horrible.

As the Senate considers socialized medicine for the U.S. today, consider what the concentration of government funding for socialized medicine throughout Europe has done for the business of health care.  See Medica 2009 in Dusseldorf.  It’s simply enormous.  Floor space for the 4-day event costs around $20,000 for a 10′ x 10′ square.  That’s $2M for a 100′ x 100′ space.  The opulence is palpable.  Massive displays of every medical device, machine, and product stretch for acres and acres in multiple linked buildings.  Thousands of beautiful women and sharp dressed men represent their products with panache, elan and requisite sex appeal.  The Medica show began around the same time governments began pouring public money into health care in the 60’s and 70’s.  If you want more of something, subsidize it, and the evidence seems beyond doubt that public health care dollars have had this effect.  It is puzzling, however, that the business of health care seems to be doing so well while the actual provision of health care seems to be in a state of crisis and in need of further socialization, more subsidy, and more government control.  Is there really a disconnect here?  Or is the argument for socializing health care in America a myth propagated by a leftist congress intent on perpetrating an extreme device to transfer more wealth and power to government forces?  If the U.S. House and Senate get their way, we’ll definitely get more health care business.  Ironically, we’ll also get health care rationing, scarcity of providers, and enormously increased taxes.  Imagine how our economies would look without governments confiscating enormous wealth and directing it into favored industries, and instead, people directed the spending of their own wealth toward goods and services they actually wanted?  Would we buy these fantastically expensive trade shows?  I seriously doubt it.

The Script:  (for causing legal and cultural changes to occur without benefit of reasonable fact-based analysis)

Desensitize by changing the terminology.  Examples: homosexual–>gay, abortion–>choice, socialized medicine–>affordable health care.  Do this until the issue becomes thoroughly tiresome and the new terms merit no more than a shrug of the shoulders.

Jam and silence the opposition with widespread intimidation and misrepresentation of their motives.  Example: Matthew Shepard was robbed, beaten and later died.  Subsequent investigation showed that he was targeted for his money, not his homosexuality.  Nevertheless, Christian Coalition, Family Research Council and Focus on the Family were all widely accused of fomenting an anti-homosexual climate and were associated with Shepard’s murderers.

Conversion of the negative into the positive.  Hate is love, lies are truth.  Positive elements are magnified, negative elements are completely suppressed.  Classic propaganda techniques here.

Rewrite history.  Revisionism including fabricating new historical figures, giving new motives and new behaviors to existing historical figures, and creating historical outcomes that never existed.  For example, many of the early Nazis were homosexual, however, anyone daring to criticize homosexuality today is labeled a Nazi.

If the thousands of pages of new federal legislation Obama has inspired don’t succeed in killing off the last remnants of America’s constructive capacity, surely the tedium of the left’s non-stop propaganda war against America will bore the country to death.

A friend came into my store yesterday having just come from traffic court where she was fined $340 for going 47 in a 50-to-25 transition zone. She’s a single mom, widow, no spring chick, raising two adopted kids who are in elementary school, by doing patient care for elderly people in their homes.  She drives an older car.  She’s one of the people who make Elbert County livable for elderly people.

A hat tip to the revenuing Elbert County Sheriffs and a complicit court system for another injustice.  Did anyone else notice that the measure to repeal term limits for the Sheriff went down by a substantially bigger margin than all of the others?
